I was reading King of Capital (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003E8AJXI ) this summer and thought the next generation of private equity would be buying inefficient firms, installing AI systems to radically lower their costs then selling the company on.

I like the idea, but no need for AI. Just set up Zendesk, Zapier, GSuite, Slack, Gusto, Flexport, NetSuite, etc and you'll blow it out of the water.

The more and more I learn about PE, the more I'm convinced this will work. The smaller you go in company size, the easier it is to find these types of opportunities. Doesn't work for a fund, but perfect for a few friends
