‘The Score Takes Care of Itself’ is fantastic. What he doesn’t mention is you need to have excellent ideas, intuition, and judgement to run an organization “your way.” It’s like telling the avg investor to trade stocks. Leadership needs the equivalent of an indexing strategy.

I took away the opposite meaning - have a process for the absolute basics (e.g. instructing players on how to put on socks and tie their shoes). Execution is harder than new ideas so at the very least do what works.

I took it as a focus on fundamentals (blocking, tackling, speed, etc) + detail-oriented execution of a complex plan (West Coast offense), plus a focus on less-important details (tucking in shirts) to emphasize perfection. Tucking in shirts doesn’t win Super Bowls.pic.twitter.com/Xyl4eYfB8j
