I read somewhere that in a well-functioning democracy, one of the many luxuries is being able to ignore politics, as it's handled by well-meaning if disagreeing people. I think that's mostly true.

Take away all politicians and nobody would notice? Take away all the key workers, scientists, engineers, society and the economy would collapse in 7 days back to cave people.
