The Bay Area’s transit agencies are broke, but we’re still going ahead with this plan to spend a couple years building a ferry to shuttle people 2 miles parallel to an existing light rail line why exactly?

This is egregious. The Board of Supervisors appears to be committed to completely breaking the city’s transit agency as a stunt while offering no actual leadership of their own to solve the extremely urgent transportation problems we’re facing.

Free Muni would be great. I’d just like to see the officials who ran on that platform to demonstrate the seriousness of purpose commensurate with raising the few hundred million dollars needed to make that happen instead of stunts. Where’s the actual plan to freeze fares?

This. If there’s such an obvious solution to SFMTA’s budget woes that could avert a fare increase, the Board of Supervisors should say what it is and make it happen instead of playing these games and retaliating against a disability advocate.

DPH had staff putting up “get tested” fliers all over Bernal yesterday, but why isn’t anyone going door-to-door with swabs inside of SROs?

Just one Democrat on TV going full Howard Beale with the visible anger that 74,000 deaths and zero leadership from the federal government to stop it demands. Is that too much to ask for?

Turns out what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas. San Francisco now marking out distancing squares on pavement for people who should be allowed to move into hotels.

White squares marked on Fulton St plaza pavement in front of existing Civic Center encampment.
Three men in yellow-orange official vests using a template and a spray can on a pole to mark long dotted lines along Fulton just short of Larkin. City Hall and U.S. historical flags in background.

The plan also calls for several encampments to be “resolved,” but there are no places for people to go. If “resolve” really just means “make them move their tent to a different block,” at least be honest that’s what we’re doing and say that instead of hiding behind a euphemism.

“Resolution isn’t an option during the Shelter in Place order, there are not shelters and hotels are not available (according to the guidelines) to most of the people in these encampments.”

I’m glad the city is finally saying they’ll pay attention to the Tenderloin, but I am really confused how this block-by-block approach is supposed to work. It’s called a neighborhood plan, but I’m not sure how you call one side of the street high priority and not the other.

I saw Courtney's tweet go by on the timeline Friday night and smiled because everything did briefly feel okay. And now it’s so extremely not. What an extraordinary person who was somehow everywhere, constantly building community. There are no words.

Sadly, Saroyan's pasta career only lasted 3 days due to lack of wages. But he left behind a "literary essay about eating, about wheat, flour, salt, the discovery of new usages for flour, the meaning of Italy, and the marvel of macaroni.” I wonder if it still exists

I promised pasta. Last fall's ride prompted a trip down the rabbit hole discovering his job at the Macaroni Review, a magazine devoted to the pasta industry and the extraction of ad revenue from the 84! SF spaghetti and macaroni manufacturers

    Saroyan loved San Francisco

San Francisco itself is art, above all literary art. Every block is a short story, every hill a novel. Every home a poem, every dweller within immortal. That is the whole truth. If you’re alive, you can’t be bored in San Francisco. If you’re not alive, San Francisco will bring you to life.No city invites the heart to come to life as San Francisco does.Arrival in San Francisco is an experience in living.

"In the time of your life, live—so that in that good time there shall be no ugliness or death for yourself or for any life your life touches. Seek goodness everywhere, and when it is found, bring it out of its hiding place and let it be free and unashamed.”
