I appreciate this new mandate to pause and reflect amidst our fast paced world. I might want to tweet now, but I can't. I have to stop and ask myself whether this is the tweet I really want to transmit into the world of the future.

Transit enriches the places and lives around it. It is a public good, and should be funded as such.

Our call to the state is not just a call to bridge the gap but also that we need more sustainable models of operating funds. And this is not a BART-only or -induced issue. All Bay Area transit agencies face this crisis indiscriminately and totally. bart.gov/financialcrisis

Without additional relief funding for transit from the state, local transit agencies will need to pull together more money to stay afloat and avoid fiscal cliff cuts. Here's what San Francisco is looking at

Grim outlook at upcoming @SFMTA_Muni meeting. The Bay Area's largest transit agency faces a fiscal cliff and stagnating ridership. Policy options: - Expanded meter hours on evenings and Sundays - More parking tickets - Fare hikes and cracking down on fare evaders

i am genuinely terrified of what might happen if transit agencies go under i really really hope the feds or the state figure it out

Interesting to see BART mention (new?) efforts to get operational funding from the feds in slides from tomorrow's board meeting. Is there new movement at the federal level? Everyone I've discussed bridge funding with has put the chance of more federal assistance at near zero.

Nearly one in three traffic fatalities in SF in 2022 were hit and runs. More likely than not, the drivers responsible for these collisions will never be held accountable, and survivors are largely left to advocate for themselves. From

Hereโ€™s the number I carry in my head from 2-3% of the US population is immunocompromised. Thatโ€™s a huge and under represented minority. Link below. They deserve our support and weโ€™re neglecting them. No excuse.

"parking minimum" = 0 results "building code" = 0 results "land assembly" = 0 results "discretionary approval" = 0 results NYT wrote a whole article about 5/1s aesthetics and didn't bother to examine the underlying rules that produce them at all.

Around the country, people are fed up with the state of contemporary building. Yes, we desperately need new housing. But we also need to build that housing well, in ways that people can appreciate and will last for generations. Whatโ€™s going on here? nytimes.com/2023/01/20/rea

More New Yorkers have died of COVID in the past sixteen days than died of homicide all of last year. Of those two issues which are politicians and the press telling you is an emergency and which are they telling you is unimportant?

A small dog stands next to a person who is smiling widely with their eyes closed.
A person in a suit dances with a child in a dress.
A group of people pose after being elected to a "prom court". they are all dressed fabulously.
A person in a very shiny fancy jacket points and smiles to someone off camera, the other people in the frame are smiling and clapping.

eSome interesting Shared Spaces numbers from the SFMTA Board meeting. There were 984 permit applications, of which 702 were parklets. 592 of those were renewals and 110 new applications. They say this is a substantial portion but down from the ~1,500ish at the program's peak

There is almost no money in next yearโ€™s budget for Long Covid. That billion is almost all gone with, yet, a single Paxlovid trial starting *just recently.* Thatโ€™s it. Despite occasional good media articles, the attention isnโ€™t there. This isnโ€™t good. Needs a huge, focused push.

On NYE, my hometown of Sunol was hit hard by an atmospheric river. It was the worst storm the town had seen in 40 years. My momโ€™s house flooded and I documented as they picked up the pieces. My @sfchronicle writing debut, please spend time with this one bit.ly/3H4AJ3A
