100 people per year. That's it. That's all that neighbourhoods comprising 25% of Vancouver's land area have been allowed to welcome over the last 25 years. Ask your election candidate why these neighbourhoods are off limits to ordinary people.

"The impact on the environment of Upper West Siders and their cars is nothing. Go to China, where I’ve been on business, and I can’t leave my hotel room because it’s dangerous.” A right-wing talking point is now used by liberal NYers to preserve parking!

Nextdoor NIMBYs in San Francisco are complaining about “vehicle owner discrimination” because they made market street car-free. I wish I was making this up

It’s one thing to borrow design principles/best practices for human-centric dev. from other cities (ex. quality pedestrian realm, multimodal integration), but I find it odd when we build caricatures of other places & omit the features that actually make them great.

Announcing the formation of a counter-nimby group. It'll be called "Grow The Fuck Up Grandview" GTFUG. We'll workshop the name. But srsly tho, the Safeway site rezoning is coming up. The usual suspects are actually going to fight towers next to the region's busiest transit hub.

Let me tell you about some very interesting brand new research from my colleagues paper available on SSRN "Geographic and Temporal Variations in Housing Filtering Rates" by Liyi Liu, Doug McManus, and Elias Yannopoulos 1/8

The entire concept of “filtering” that some ppl like to mock, requires/assumed a surplus of housing. No surplus = all (new and existing) housing filters up, not down.

I’m at the Councillor Hardwick in Grandview “Sowing Dissent Against City Hall” event. The fluorescent brightness helps negate my tiredness, but this is going to be a struggle. We’re in a meeting room in the rink building. I’m the youngest person in the room. [~~~THREAD~~~]

Single-detached home owners are highly overrepresented in the early returns of this survey. If you have the capacity (5-ish mins), please fill this out to ensure the forms are *more* representative of Vancouver's many communities.

Aka the entire population of Metro would be able to walk/roll for daily trips.

If you can, please consider participating so the city hears from more than just groups like this. The City Wide Plan is starting up. You can sign up for updates and take a survey here. The City Wide Plan will only be a success if it hears from all of us!

It's getting close to two weeks and they haven't responded, so I want to share some thoughts. tl;dr The Coalition of Vancouver Neighbourhoods sure looks like more of an advocacy group (pushing for preservation of the status quo) than an actual representative org.
