Non-US observers of this debate should of course bear in mind that these sediments don’t apply so well to AU/UK/EU 3-4 year PhD programs, after which postdoc experience is often required to reach parity with US peers
Quote Tweet
As the partner of an academic in a required-postdoc field: fuck post docs. Every field that requires post docs should feel embarrassed that their PhD programs, after SIX YEARS!!!, STILL don’t have faith to dog food their own human capital. twitter.com/ShriramKMurthi…

When something fucked up happens during an academic job interview, remind yourself that the department just did you a huge favor by showing you who they really are. Some places can’t even keep their dysfunction bottled up for a 24 hour visit.

It’s faculty interview season. Reminder for y’all candidates to please also think of an interview as an opportunity to evaluate whether you would like to spend a large part of your future life with the existing cohort of faculty members at the host institution!

So needlessly callous and officious. Let the reviewers ignore longer rebuttals if they want to.
Why not have some empathy and forgiveness for the grad students that put in all the work?
Quote Tweet
FYI to those authors out there that like to ignore through the author response length -- @USENIXSecurity PC Chairs are truncating responses so that reviewers don't consider the excess comments.

Reviewers can stop reading when they want; why inhibit the authors?
Reviewers are bad at saying what's most important. Authors' enforced-short guesses are doomed to fail.
I lead with a general response < 500 words, and follow with point-by-point responses to each reviewer.
