*employee giving out surveys at SFO* “wish i could just hit 65 and be done with this. I’m tired of working for the man - I’m ready for revolution... too old for old though”

lately after drinking somewhat heavily i wake up at like 3:30am and my brain is GOING OFF - end up not being able to fall back asleep but i usually don't want to get out of bed either so i just lie there falling into thinky-holes

i found this is a nice re-framing (but maybe just because "your feelings are valid" feels tired). also this thread is exactly why i have found twitter great. incredible amount of knowledge and references in here

as awe-inspiring and beautiful as snow is when it falls, it is equally as depressing when it starts to rain and snow starts to melt

but now i realize this "watcher" scrambles my real thoughts in order to hide them. at some level, i didn't (don't) want to reveal what i'm really thinking bc that would reveal something about myself

i can't count the number of conversations i've had where someone asks me "whatcha thinkin about" and my brain just turns to static. i used to think this was bc i was "bad at communicating" or the thought seemed to out of context to bring up or didn't want to ruin the mood

i really love this "watcher at the gates of the mind" metaphor. in this context, schiller is talking about creativity - you have to let the ideas come to you but i also find it applies to social situations

"In the case of a creative mind, it seems to me, the intellect has withdrawn its watchers from the gates, and the ideas rush in pell-mell, and only then does it review and inspect the multitude."

i feel like my sociability is directly correlated with how motivated/inspired i'm feeling and i suspect one causes the other, but I wonder about which one? maybe there is some sort of circularity there

the brain is a wild thing - one minute you’re motivated and firing on all cylinders getting things done and the next you’re wandering around in the thick haze questioning “what’s the point?”

love his framework around offers too - everything an improviser says or does is an offer and other actors can either block or accept it. this can apply to so much of social interaction - people implicitly make offers all the time and you can choose to go deeper, or block

trying to go into more experiences w/o any pre-conceived notions of what it’s going to be like. i find i can enjoy/examine it more than i would otherwise. easy everyday example is listening to music w/o looking at the song/artist beforehand

i used to stop myself from listening to songs i was obsessed with too many times to avoid ruining the “magic” but now i’ve found that “magic” doesn’t actually come around that often so it’s best to make the most of it while it’s there

can extend this to basically anywhere in the US with a high density population. am always a little sad when i am somewhere seemingly remote and think "what's that noise? - oh, its the highway"

plus you can add explanations in the page metadata which is fantastic my other fav is using [[antilibrary]] instead of "reading list", which helps to remind me its good that it rarely gets any smaller

i think mapping concepts onto more unique words makes it easier to remember them when they show up irl e.g. instead of "anxiety", i use [[crazybrain]] and when i tag [[soap poisoning]] i mean the "when i do this that'll show them" mindset

the tagging in makes me want to come up (or find) more interesting/unique names for things I create pages for, so they're less likely to show up too often in other places where i don't want them
