That's a big question. It requires training, like physical stamina or metabolic fitness. The most effective tools I've found are breathwork (to open up and expand our nervous system) + a regular meditation practice (cultivating the non-judgemental witness of emotions)

In one sense capacity can be measured by the time it takes from shifting out of fight/flight (reactive re-enforcement) into parasympathetic (and enquiring into the nature of the stressor)
