Wake up, grow up, & clean up (taking longer than anticipated) to reduce force-fitting outdated paradigms and past based responses on present situations. I can now make better decisions based on the past, present, and desired future moment by moment.https://twitter.com/LifeMathMoney/status/1172765393737269250 …

Can relate to the longer-than-anticipated "clean up"! What was the most helpful practices or models you found for reducing past-based responses?

So far it has been a combination of (1) Anapana/vipassana to better catch the reactions and (2) a year long program where we trigger each other, distinguish the past, and choose a rational decision in everyday life. I supplement with realization therapy for processing deep trauma

But the reactions don’t reduce unless I replace them with a more rewarding behavior. Eg. when getting triggered, seeing the reaction, courageously choosing a different behavior, and consciously seeing the outcome train me out of that reaction as it proves unnecessary with data.

Fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing. This resonates with me a lot and approximates the things I’ve been doing but I haven’t been consistent enough. I trigger all the time on my own though (food/chem sensitivity) so no need for others to do it at least...

I haven’t heard of realization therapy and my meditation practice isn’t so specific so I’ll check them out. I have found IFS therapy and the differentiation between core emotions and inhibitory emotions very helpful.

I definitely find physical triggers to be more challenging than emotional triggers. The reactions to them are more visceral. IFS looks interesting and so do Core vs inhibitory emotions - what is that about? Here's info on realization:https://realizationprocess.org/

Agreed. Thanks for the link. This looks really promising for me. Here’s the source of the theory on core/inhibitory emotions. Note the emotions she named as core can also be inhibitory though.https://www.hilaryjacobshendel.com/what-is-the-change-triangle-c18dd …

A good way to tell them apart is if there is a thought process generating it and “fuelling” it to increase, it’s inhibitory. If it is unaccompanied by thought and releases as you feel it it’s core.

This is really great and I'm going to incorporate this into my work. Thanks for sharing <3. This is one journal article that backs the Realization work btw - https://www.coherencetherapy.org/files/Ecker-etal-NPT2013April-Primer.pdf …

Glad it's useful! Recognizing "defensive" emotions when they arise has been so key for me. That article looks like a great resource. I will check it out. Thank you so much!
