First, the data show that initial weight is correlated with diet. Second it stands to reason that over-weight students would choose a dining room differently than under-weight.

I am extremely alarmed by how casually scepticism of the posited causal model is swept under the rug. Literally no evidence at all is given, only that it "seems reasonable" and sceptics are just too attached to "mainstream statistics".

But surely the correctness of the causal model itself is absolutely essential? And surely any scientific mind would justifiably want evidence that the model is actually right?
