Today, we honor Claudette Colvin’s (b. 1939) contributions to the Black freedom struggle. Often overshadowed by the legacy of Rosa Parks, Colvin was arrested on 3/2/55 at age 15 in Montgomery, AL (9 months before Parks) for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white woman.pic.twitter.com/jFeEomlpxq
In a recent interview, Colvin said that she felt that “history had [her] glued to the seat.” Claudette Colvin paved the way for Rosa Parks, Dr. King, and countless others in Montgomery fighting against racial segregation born of white supremacy.
