I once offered to help a guy up, but his friend jumped in front of me because "it would be humiliating for him, if it was a woman who helped him". The guy on the ground looked pretty bemused at his friend though, so there's that.

I generally say, “Thank you.” You know, cause a stranger offered me a kindness? I also try not to judge a whole gender based on one act, like a judgmental tweet, for instance. Sorry some guy was a jerk.
