It's the "quote" that really gets me in this one. Glorious.

So, I got a Stream Deck a while ago, and soon learned that you can put gifs as icons on the buttons. I don't think I can top this one. (The button turns off the room lights and locks the PC, thus "Bye Everybody!")

Sharing my timeline cleanse for today - two things I didn't know could go great together, Tenacious D and Evangelion.

There's a good chance they've both seen it before, but this seems like extremely and content. (found from a work slack channel)

I've been an engineering manager/director for 17+ years, and if you're an under-represented person in tech looking for guidance, advice, advocacy, or even an ear, my DMs are open - RT for reach

Given all of that though, remember that for most conferences, acceptance rates are low, from around 10 percent. Most talks *won't* be accepted. So if your talk doesn't make it, don't throw it away! Ask for your feedback, make some edits, and give it another go!

I said before that you shouldn't be shy about spoilers in your abstract, but that goes tenfold for the "Benefits" section. Spoil your whole talk. Tell the reviewers where you're going, so they can make a better call about your talk.

I'm a fair chunk of the way through reviewing proposals atm, and I had another tip for proposals: The "Benefits to the Ecosystem" section is not only for you to explain how your talk will benefit people who come to see it, but a chance for you to talk to your reviewers.

Watching play the at Commander was great fun. Cool commanders, great plays, and a great win at the end.

Fuck every single person involved in keeping these kids in detention. Fuck their evil banality. Fuck the callous cruelty masquerading as "security". If you support this, never speak to me again please.

This lets reviewers see where your talk is going while reviewing, and lets the actual conference-goers make better decisions about where to spend their scarce actual-conference time.

I think the best talk abstracts say something like: “I’m going to tell you how I foozled by hoisting the warble. You’ll come away with an understanding of what foozling is, and why you should hoist the warble instead of raising it."

Why yes, I am reviewing proposals at the moment, how could you tell?

So, my top tip for writing tech conference talk proposals: Your abstract shouldn't be a book blurb. You don't need to worry about spoiling the ending. It should be more like an academic paper abstract. Tell us what you're going to tell us. If I like that, I'll come and hear it.
