I wish Europe had a better train system, perhaps modeled after China's new trains / Shinkansen. To visit a neighbouring country I'd take the comfort of a train over a plane any day.

The Shinkansen covers 500km in 3.5hrs on the Tokyo-Osaka line. That's about the same distance as Berlin-Copenhagen by land. The total time it takes to get from city center to city center is: 30+60+45+30 mins by plane. Going by train would be about the same time, but more chill

So, Germany already has a system that is competitive, and France similar. Berlin/Munich is almost 600km and takes 4 hours (with stops). The Shinkansen is far from available everywhere. The Tokio<>Osaka line is very special.

Haha, yeah - I know. What I'd love to see would be a good connection from Berlin-Amsterdam for example. Or Berlin-Vienna, Berlin-Copenhagen. Maybe someday :D
