Actually dat is problematic in large intranets (ones large enough that nodes are not all accessible via multicast). Discovery happens, but communication mostly fails.
Dat is both a disk format and a network protocol. Sounds like in this case using a different network strategy might be useful. Perhaps something like a centralized discovery server might work well!
