i wonder about making a tool that allows backwards-compat for emojis, just like how you can strip ansi color codes.
Pick a small subset of emojis, which can be converted to a 3-char counterpart. eg.
--> :rbw:
--> :sax:
--> :cop:
Good: ANSI color code in command lines. Less good: emojis in command lines. Why? Unicode support is _still_ not universal, which means it isn't great for portability. It's a tradeoff that might not always be worth it. It's good to think about, at least.

I used to work on a project that wanted to be portable enough to run on mainframes too. We couldn't have nice things (modern programming tools) on any platform. Emoji are a bit gratuitous, so your point has validity. We do need pressures to modernize though.

Yeah, that's very true! - I wasn't trying to be prescriptive, but more point out that the choice of using emojis comes with tradeoffs. I think tradeoffs are good to be aware of! (:
