You on i3? Maybe you can start it when X starts i3. I do this for my screen locker and works alright.

Haha, yeah that's the hack I've done so far too. But it feels wrong; we're supposed to be able to write unit files for all our things, specify dependencies and debug the output through journalctl. Haha, just trying to get better at this C:
