omg `$ synclient PalmDetect=1`, is the best. Touching my touchpad made my cursor jump around all the time - turns out MacOS is clever about this and prevents it from happening. The setting above prevents it from happening on Linux too! (or well, for the most part. Tweak tweak)

There's also syndaemon, which disables the touchpad while typing. This is probably also very useful - but requires launching a daemon which means unit files (oh no!) Command is something like: $ syndaemon -i 0.5 -t -K -R https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics#Configuration …
