I’ve deleted Facebook posts from years ago that I am now embarrassed by. Political stuff, etc. If there’s no way to delete posts, that seems (IMO) to be somewhat of a privacy issue. Perhaps that’s the point and you shouldn’t post anything you aren’t absolutely sure about.
Clicking delete on a post on FB doesn't guarantee it's deleted from Facebook's servers either — or removes screenshots people took. You always have to be careful with what you share.

Yes, sure. But my nontechnical friends can’t access it. Even my technical friends probably won’t be able to, at least easily. I like a lot of the ideas of Scuttlebutt, but not being able to edit or delete posts would probably prevent me from using it.

Can you force people to forget secrets you have told them? No you can't. Same thing, but digitally. Delete is an illusion.
