I'm with you 100%, but don't you think most countries have these blind spots for their own history?
Maybe, but some choose to issue a formal apology after the fact and pay reparations for the damage done. The Netherlands chooses to hold blackface marches & call it "the golden age". Fuck that.

Couldn’t agree more. Racism was our number 1 export for centuries, and as a country we’ve never even acknowledged this, let alone imagine what reparations might look like.

re: blackface, I’ve only come to accept this for what it is after moving away from the netherlands. not necessarily because i was some dickhead before (i mean, i was), but being outside of a specific society for a bit helps you build some perspective.
