You could use (function () { ... }).toString() (and remove the fn) or day.readFile versus the multiline string to get syntax highlighting.

Don't have full context but afaik using either the vm and/or clearing your require cache will immensely mess up performance.

Lmao, using proxyquire ended up being the cleanest approach. Not great for perf, but it not a hot path either. Also not bad :D
