Errr, unless someone knows why window.PerformanceObserver would stop reporting events all of a sudden, I think I've hit a Chrome bug :/

lol ok, think I figured out what's happening - active PerformanceObservers can incorrectly be garbage collected when they shouldn't be

Workaround was to attach it to the window object so it's very clear it shouldn't be cleaned up. Lol,
