Why not speak to it via API? Or aren't you talking about docker?
I kinda wish all these container thing weren't written in Go so that other languages could bind to them

runc, docker, rkt - they're all Go. I'd rather not IPC usually; brings about all sorts of complexity compared to single process

in what kind of language would you build a containerization system?

C / CPP probably - already did it in POSIX shell once and can't really recommend it
