Slow to start up. Unpredictable performance. Steal cycles to recompile. Little benefits over AOT, interpreters or mixed.

Honest question: why "unpredictable performance" comes often as a bad thing? Is e.g. "predictably slower" better?

-- see Gambit-{68k,C} Scheme which has had AOT compilation plus a fast interpreter for > 25 years. Works well.
