Bedtime thought: perhaps secure scuttlebutt can be used as a distributed message queue replacing some of the more complicated solutions
I wonder how well callbacks would perform in Rust. Given enums + static typing I suspect the extra closure alloc should be fast enough

have you seen tokio? gives you promises as an interface, but turns them into a fast state machine under the hood

hah yeah, tried it for a bit. I'm def less comfortable with future-style programming compared to callbacks hah
