Embarrassed to ask: Is there a standard for uniquely identifying hash functions with strings like "SHA-384"?

Multihash still packs a numeric prefixes, right? I really just want string prefixes. Need to to recognize them "in the wild".

ah right - yeah numbers my bad; but is it to detect which one was used by a 3rd party? feel you might be in for A Very Bad Time™
