Preact 6.2 is 4x faster at creating VDOM elements.
I'm confident it's the fastest possible technique.
It's also another 5% smaller.

I'd avoid instanceof checks too, they generally depot all the time. Use array.isArray instead for better perf :)

No convincing needed. I just did the roll the dice benchmark and got 6 - so it would appear Angular1 wins!
