I work on a 12" screen. If anything is more than 80 chars wide / cannot be grasped in half a screen's worth of height it's useless for me

nah, but you could cater to the junior dev: eg assume less comment more. Stay sharp as to what they struggle with and fix it

totally, so ideally there should be tech solution. Auto-wrap in text editor is the one in this case. That cater everyone

no, it's a crappy solution - you ever wrap? It messes up jumping through text for me which is arguably worse than long lines
