What do people think of sometimes annotating <div> elements with "data-name" attributes to mention what they for?

ids can only be used once per page; comments can't be used to select elements

What about classes for selecting? data-name is fine of course, but most often the others also fine I think. -
hah yeah so I'm using classes for styling; if I start using it for other stuff too things can get hairy :/
