      yeah, I think npm starts racking up mem to create the dep graph, hits the cgroup limit and insta crashes the container

      Browserify has >40 direct deps IIRC. Can you COPY node_modules in addition to package.json? Often like to do that anyway.

      Ain't nothin' wrong with committing node_modules. Otherwise: More RAM. You're asking npm to do a lot with leftovers of 512MB.

          All considered, you almost certainly really, really want an npm@3 tree. What's wrong with committing node_modules?
