Current version of the internet is hierarchical. This causes a lot of technical problems

Current internet has 99 problems: hierarchical address space, NAT reliance, unauthenticated connections (DDOS
), backbone reliance1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

Talking about peering now. How multiple ISPs connect to each other. Background: http://www.internetsociety.org/sites/default/files/norton3_20100811.pdf … (internet is a miracle pretty much)

IPFS wants to use a different approach - use source routing instead of "distance vector routing" - the source determines the route

apparently current routers at nodes are devices that are not cheap (like 5 figures). A better routing paradigm would make this a lot cheaper

So to sum it up: source routing moves routing from jump nodes to the edges of the network, which allows for simpler & cheaper switches

All this stuff is pretty much low level networking; backbone of the internet. Hope we'll touch on in-browser gossip / routing soon too

e.g. solving that would allow for in-browser DHT which is relevant to not only IPFS but also WebTorrent and the like

Coolest idea so far: build a chrome extension that allows for raw UDP access. Chrome and FF expose this, could prototype a WebUDP spec
