The wild west of JS has a lot of really fun properties for devs & the community. Types are nice, but you def lose something..

Yeah. A lot of companies/smart people sinking a lot of resources into making JS/browsers fast.

Compare to Ruby/Python etc - all compiler/interpreter stuff done off the clock by volunteers. JS is weird :-)
