the addition of stage 0/1/2 proposals were widely regarded as a questionable move; XML-in-JS (JSX) is def not JS

Babel doesn't make you use JSX. Thats a setting to turn on or off

babel also doesn't make you use ES6, like with anything babel it's fully opt-in; but it's there and widely used
