Apparently ES modules can rebound their exported values at any given point making it impossible to properly instrument. Nope nope :(

believe Node people are in talks with TC39. I'm sure we won't end up with .mjs or something equally ludicrous if it can be helped
(honestly haven't heard a single compelling argument for ES modules in Node in the first place, but hmmm that's probs just me)
