I think my perception of the word "professional" has changed over the years. I used to think it was about using jargon, talking seriously, formal settings. But for me the emphasis has shifted towards empathy: the ability to balance viewpoints, share perspectives, understanding.

are "competence", "experienced", "effective" better words than "professionalism"? Not suggesting they are, just throwing them out there :-)

Compétence, expérience, and effectiveness aren't attitudes. Professionalism is an attitude. It is a secondary behaviour, while the others are closer to primary skills. I think the attitudeness makes it so prone to racism & classism. It is a hierarchical cultural standard.
