Two thoughts:
1. I've been writing software professionally for about 20 years now and I'm still no good at graphics programming. It's OK to not know everything, it's a team sport.

2. A lot of the success I have in writing software these days is using my experience to know what parts of a system are potentially problematic and taking appropriate care when implementing them. I haven't figured out how to scale this beyond "write down all the stuff I know".
