Dumb question but do always inline functions go into stack traces? It seems unfortunate if the trade-off is the lack of ability to use helper functions.

That's a great question! I don't know really. I'm not even sure "always inline", well, always inlines. I believe DWARF allows expanding stack traces to be more meaningful, so even if something is compiled down it will show up. But not an expert so can't tell you for sure.
