Platform compat in reactors is interesting though. Some practical constraints: - must expose the reactor's epoll fd on Linux - must support both SOCKET and HANDLE on Windows* I think this means abstractions should be platform-dependent. This deviates from the status quo.
*Note: I'm not very familiar with Windows APIs. But my understanding is that HANDLEs are generally used for files/pipes, which also support non-blocking operations using OVERLAPPED. Any reactor abstraction that only covers Unix fd and Windows SOCKET is likely not enough.
(Windows peeps, feel free to chime in here) Most of this is based on skimming docs, and posts such as: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/sync/synchronization-and-overlapped-input-and-output …. Haven't done enough on Windows yet to be entirely confident in the Windows portion of what I've said about reactor compat so far.
