I don't know enough, yet, about Rust to know this, but do Rust streams share the same problems as .Net streams: primarily the question of who allocates buffers, especially when intermediate Streams must allocate new ones for any reason (e.g. encryption padding).

I'm not familiar with .net streams, but this could indeed be similar.
