And remember to not thumbs-up it too much, because that's oppressive supposedly.

Don't know if you've ever been on the receiving end of a GitHub mob. But take it from someone who has: this is not a great take. Even if intended as a joke.

I 100% agree with you when it comes to comments, but I have issues with people complaining about a thumbs-up counter. Especially given some of those people would keep sending me wink emojis in heated discussions, even after I politely asked them to stop doing that in private.

A sudden spike of strangers engaging seemingly out of the blue on your work can be confusing and intimidating. Especially when the topics are controversial or comments aggressive. Can you understand why people might not feel great when that happens?

Sure, as I said, getting dozens of comments all at once suck, and I can even agree that dozens of thumbs-down on a comment can ruin a day, but this was about thumbs-up emoji reactions.

Heh, yeah I know it is. And I'm telling you it can still suck. If someone opens an issue with a bad take, and it gets 25 upvotes in half an hour, it doesn't matter how many people have commented — it's still a shit feeling.
