2020, the year I'm rolling back all of my own infrastructure and moving it to managed services instead. No, I don't want to maintain my own {distro, server, database} if I can get a managed variant for the same price.

Databases have a huge price performance overhead for managed services. Most providers under-charge for compute so you get stuck in over-charged and difficult-to-migrate-away-from data services. But for small personal usage the managed service prices can be NBD for some engineers

Yeah that's exactly the case for me — throughput is incredibly low for all my stuff, yet time cost is high. When priced in the same range it doesn't make sense for me to host my own.
