New crate: fd-lock. Provides cross-platform advisory locks to help coordinate file access between multiple programs. Modeled after Rust's Mutex API. https://docs.rs/fd-lock/1.0.0/fd_lock/ …pic.twitter.com/CFvCZWns0T
Published v1.1.0; now includes an additional `lock` method that will block until it can acquire a lock, staying in line with Rust's Mutex semantics. https://docs.rs/fd-lock/1.1.0/fd_lock/struct.FdLock.html#method.lock …
Just realized something fun: fd-lock is in practice a cross-platform, cross-process mutex. It allows resource sharing between separate processes exactly the way a regular Mutex would. Lol oops, that was not the plan.
Not sure it's cross-platform. Some systems may release locks inconsistently depending on various exit situations of the process that claimed the lock. And I think some NFS implementations will break this expectation.
Should be good for Linux though :]
Oh yeah, it doesn't work over NFS. But it should work on both MacOS, Linux and Windows!
