Gotcha! I've been using Arch for both my laptop and server, and it's been relatively pleasant, though I usually just follow this cheat sheet: https://gist.github.com/jamesmunns/bddcfc55e154b52916dde3b89d64c133 … Definitely not easy, but pretty straightforward? Not sure what ubuntu's installer looks like these days.

Oof. I've found myself there before. I've had to reboot with the live-usb and re-chroot into the environment to fix things like missing network drivers, packages, etc.

I was so pleased with myself as well, I had got everything as I wanted, but then forgot the shell. I ended up wiping and reinstalling

The worst is setting up full disk encryption as like step 1, then by the time you're done installing everything and reboot, you realize you've forgotten the password.
