(I tried again today; trying some builds in the background while drafting docs. 2 attempts over 3 hours is, err, not very fast.) (Also: this is not so much a criticism of the compiler; I'm empathetic to the amount of factors that need to be considered and prioritized.)

It's worth it. My first gen thread ripper (16 cores 32 threads) did a full clean build of rustc stage 0, stage 1 and then stage 2 (optimized) in ~20 minutes. It's so nice

If I had done it with an M2 drive I coul likely get it to be a bit faster

Can sympathize. Not proud of it, but I don't even compile rustc - just push code and wait for CI to blow up with errors

Haha, yep nope would not recommend. Realistically you're better off SSHing into a rented server at that point :P
