Does anyone know if Bunsen Browser and @BeakerBrowser are actually compatible and expose the same APIs?
Or are there subtle differences?https://twitter.com/chrisekelley/status/1024360738373226503 …

Bunsen looks like it's only providing a minimal subset of the API atm.

That was my understanding, plus the way it works is pretty weird, it's cross-compiling node.js to run on the phone, which then provides a "server" for iOS/Abdroid to talk to. It should be possible to build this more natively, perhaps using react-native to allow reuse of code

Afaik this is how most projects in the space start with mobile stuff, before hosting a gateway off-device and giving up. I think https://github.com/staltz/dat-installer … does it in the way you are describing?

This is certainly interesting (and pairs very nicely with a separate idea I'm working on) but I'm more thinking just adding Web APIs to a react-native WebView component; and then doing simple bridges from network APIs and adding an adapter layer to dat/dat-node

@RangerMauve has done a great job making the DatArchive API for the web. Also, here's some brainstorming we had on the React Native side of things: https://github.com/bunsenbrowser/bunsen/issues/52 … .2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

You can do many of the things Bunsen does without having Node on-board. But we're interested in what we can on the p2p networking side using Node libs for peer discovery, which may not work in-browser.

Heh, yeah that's going to be interesting. Currently working on the Rust networking stack. Hope that once some more progress is made there we can add it to Hypercore. Would love to get help on binding into Android's networking APIs tho. It's currently one of the largest blockers.

Dunno if I'm allowed to say this in public or not but I talked to
@gnunicornBen a while back about our employer possibly supporting datrs development, as it's definitely a tool many of us are interested in using. I'd love to help facilitate that happening

Oh wow, it's really cool you're thinking of using datrs. Would def be keen to talk more. Shoot me an email on yoshuawuyts@gmail.com, and we can pick it up from there?
