Learned a lot about Unix Domain Sockets over the past few days. They're basically local TCP servers, which seems really convenient. I heard there's an equivalent for windows, but it's a bit different. Would a shared abstraction on top of both make sense or is it *too* different?

the node `net` module supports both unix domain sockets and windows named pipes so probably not too different. i don't actually know what the differences are and have not run into a reason to think about that, the one or two times i've used them…
