If you need a feature on a Open Source library, do not ask "please implement" XYZ. Send a Pull Request, or find some other way to contribute to the project. If that feature is to better support the Cloud service you are using, ASK THEM to contribute back.

Got a better version of this these days: ask people to open a "feature request" issue first, explaining all the pros, cons and alternatives. (See https://github.com/yoshuawuyts/github-templates/issues/new/choose …) And once they've articulated the problem & solution to a good enough degree, ask them to open a PR.

I find this approach does a couple of things: - Helps create shared understanding of the problem at hand. By structuring reporting it makes for higher quality communication. - Prevents people from popping in with 35k line patches that they've worked on for weeks & then rejected.
