The text editor Kakoune does this well. It has no tiling or tabbing, leaving that up to you. Plugins also adhere to this, for example here's the fzf.kak plugin running in iTerm and tmux. The pane it opens for you to select a file is provided by the terminal emulator.pic.twitter.com/pSqgJC0XEt

I like how Chrome lets you drag tabs between windows, would be nice to use that tab system in all apps. And to use Chrome tab manager extensions everywhere

I think a lot about how whenever a new digital object s created, a new digital organizer for it usually follows, which is incompatible with all the other ones, and often crappies than the rest. Would be amazing to be able to bring your own organizer to new contexts like that.

Isnt't that built-in MacOS since Mohave? There option to gather all windows and they become tabs eg in GitX app.

I’m talking more about how say, both Firefox and iTerm have totally different implementations of tabs. What if instead they focused on “just doing one thing well”(Unix) e.g. providing web pages and terminal sessions, and left the tabbing up to the user/OS?

Yes! I mocked something like this up back in 2012 or so... (tabs aren't shown here, but were implemented with a 'T' gesture)pic.twitter.com/jeqnLOKyqt

Wow this is super compelling! Would love to see more of this.
