For example, if I go to my Twitter profile page, I should be able to click and drag my avatar onto my desktop, and then I should be able to ask that avatar, "where did you come from?" and it should answer, "I'm @yoshikischmitz's profile image!".

I should be able to inquire further, "what's Yoshiki's profile?" and it should tell me, "Yoshiki's profile has [x tweets], follows [y profiles], has [w DMs], is followed by [z people], has a bio that says: ""....".

This should all happen on my Desktop, and I should be able to go as deeply as I want to through any of those associative trails, and get data that I can work with easily: taking them into tools like Excel to map, filter, or reduce, or turn them into new pieces of UI for myself.

Right now, if I go to my apps, I can *feel* my data is there, and as a programmer I know all of these interesting computational things I can do with it. But even tho I'm using powerful computing devices, the apps expect me to manually click through things.

I think we need to flip the script here, make it a societal expectation that we can take our data out of the apps and use it in interesting ways, the same way think it's normal to withdraw money from our bank accounts, and print out documents that are on our computers.

But we shouldn't be stuck in the mindset of the old media either, where copies forget where they came from, and following associative trails is a manual process. We need to really take advantage of these computing devices we're so precious of!

This isn't a new idea, you can see echos of it in stuff like OpenDoc, Xanadu, Object Oriented Programming, but I think it's gained tremendous relevance and urgency in the networked and appified GDPR age.

Anyways, I'm gonna work on some comics and demos of this concept in the coming days to flesh this out more and communicate this more concretely!
