real talk, does anyone even choose to homeschool their kids besides christian fundamentalist parents and antivax parents(who usually are also the former)?

I was homeschooled until halfway through high school. Not sure if my parents are considered “fundamentalists”, but they were definitely Christian conservatives.

I don’t regret it btw. I got a way better education than the vast majority of my peers I met in public high school. The only true downside is that social skills did NOT come naturally to me, so I had to quickly learn shit when I finally went to a public school environment.

I guess it’s just because of where I am, but all the homeschool kids I’ve met only got educated enough to pass and get their GED/diploma

Strange. My parents specifically wanted to protect me from the dangers & influences of public school, so they took my schooling seriously. They finally let us go to public school because they thought we were ready (and because my mom couldn’t keep up with the curriculum anymore).

See, that seems to be a lot of what drives parents to do that. And while I get the sentiment, I personally think social skills are also really valuable

I agree. My parents got us into social things, but they were mainly church related things, so everyone was either as sheltered as I was, or fucking annoying little shits (sometimes both).

Not to mention a lot of what it takes to move up in the world or in careers is social skills
